Meriden Police Officer Lauded For 'Pursuit Of Know Felon'
A police officer is being recognized for arresting a man accused of possessing a large knife and having an active felony robbery warrant.
MERIDEN, CT — Meriden Police Officer Garret Ficara is being recognized after he pursued and arrested a man accused of possessing a large knife and having an active felony robbery warrant.
Police posted the following on their Facebook page: "On February 25, 2022, Officer Garret Ficara was conducting patrol checks on Woodland St when he saw Jeffrey Colrus vehicle stuck in a snowbank. Colrus was standing outside of the vehicle. As Ficara drove by, Colrus looked at Ficara and immediately ran around the vehicle and entered it. Ficara knew that Colrus had an active felony robbery warrant out of North Haven, CT. Ficara learned this while actively investigating complaints over the past month from residents in the Woodland St area. Each time Colrus would take off in his vehicle.
"Ficara turned his cruiser around and blocked Colrus vehicle in. He began giving verbal commands to Colrus to show his hands. Colrus ignored them, started the vehicle, and attempted to free it. With no success, Colrus began reaching around the vehicle and yelling for Ficara to 'just shoot me.' Colrus was removed from his vehicle by assisting police and taken into custody. During the arrest, Colrus was found to be in the possession of a large knife. After being processed for Interfering with Police and Weapons in a Motor Vehicle, Colrus was transferred into the custody of the North Haven Police Department on the robbery warrant.
