Meriden Police To Set Up Holiday Weekend DWI Patrols

To ensure safe holiday travel, Meriden Police will have additional staffing on the roads looking for drunk or distracted drivers.

If you're drinking and planning to drive in Meriden — although you already know you shouldn't be doing that — Meriden Police will be on the lookout for you this holiday weekend.

Beginning Thursday, May 23 and continuing through Memorial Day, the department will be supplementing its patrol shifts with several special operations, the department has announced.

Additional officers will be conducting roving patrols concentrating on intoxicated drivers and underage drinking. The department also will have additional walking patrols as well. Officers also will be looking for distracted drivers who are using their cellphones, not wearing seatbelts, speeding and other motor vehicle infractions, according to police.

The additional staffing is being paid for with several grants the department has received.

Since Jan. 1, Meriden Police have made 44 driving while intoxicated arrests.
