Meriden Police Warn of Northeast Utility Phone Scam
Callers claim to be rep from company and threaten to shut off power unless payment is made immediately.

Meriden police are warning business owners to be wary of any calls coming from someone claiming to be a Northeast Utilities representative.
Meriden police have documented six cases in the past two months where business owners were called by someone claiming to be a representative from the company, said Lt. Salvatore Nesci, police spokesman.
The person generally has said that the owner is past due on an electric bill and that power will be shut off immediately unless payment is made.

The scam is not exclusive to Meriden and all state residents should be wary of such calls, Nesci said. Anyone who receives such a call should call their local police department to report it, he said.
