Meriden AOH Saint Patrick’s Day Parade Set for Saturday, March 19: Sarah Curry Named Grand Marshal; Participants Wanted

The Meriden Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians (America’s oldest Catholic fraternal organization and the largest Irish-American organization in the nation) announced today that the 43rd Annual Meriden AOH Saint Patrick’s Day Parade has been set for Saturday, March 19 at 2:00 p.m.

This year’s parade honors the 100th anniversary of the historic 1916 Easter Rising when Irish patriots rebelled against 800 years of British rule. This heroic act was the spark that lit the fire of Irish nationalism and eventual independence.

Central Connecticut’s largest parade will step off at 2:00 p.m. from the corner of East Main Street and Parker Avenue, continue through downtown Meriden and conclude at the corner of West Main Street and Bradley Avenue.

Sarah Curry has been named Grand Marshal.

The parade – which involves over two hundred participants -- will include pipe bands, fife and drum corps, marching bands-- including those from both Maloney and Platt high schools, the Shrine Temple Funsters, youth organizations, and many other participants.

The Meriden AOH invites all central Connecticut youth, fraternal, service clubs, sports leagues, and other community groups to participate in the parade. All are welcome! Please call Jim Finley (203 804-6895) or Doreen Roddy (203 213-9041) to be included as participants in central Connecticut’s premier parade.
