Meriden Police Traffic Stop Data Report

Connecticut compiled the information to determine if the state has a racial profiling problem.

The state of Connecticut undertook a traffic stop data report from October 1, 2013 through May 31,2014.

There are 2.54 million Connecticut residents who are of driving age or older. And during that time frame there were 366,000 traffic stops across the state.

Blacks account for 8 percent of the population and were pulled over 14 percent of the time, while Hispanics account for 10 percent of Connecticut’s population and were pulled over about 12 percent of all traffic stops.

In Meriden there are 42,259 residents of driving age and there were 1,988 reported traffic stops.

In Meriden, Blacks account for 7.24 percent of the population and Hispanics 21 percent. Blacks were stopped 16.75 percent of the time or 333 times, and Hispanics were pulled over 31.24 percent of the time or 621 times.
