Update: One Man Dies in Meriden House Fire; Three Firefighters Injured

The fire began late Wednesday.

Update: The American Red Cross is helping one person with emergency housing, food and clothing needs after a fire last night on Hillside Street in Meriden. Red Cross team members Lionel Dunlap and Sue Parker responded to assist the resident.

The Red Cross is also providing comfort kits containing personal care items such as toothbrushes, deodorant, shaving supplies and other items a resident might not have been able to gather in the rush to escape the fire.

Parker, the Red Cross emergency services senior director in the area, expressed sadness about the death of another resident in the fire. “Our hearts and thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.”

Update, authorities have identified the deceased as Kevin Attell, 40, who died in the blaze on Hillside Street.

One person is dead in Meriden after a fire broke out Wednesday night at 45 Hillside Street, WFSB 3 reports.

The man died in the blaze, officials said. Firefighters were called to the scene around 11 p.m.

The man was the only one inside the house at the time of the fire. Three firefighters were injured as the battled the blaze, WFSB 3 reports.

Their injuries were believed to be minor.

Fire officials are still investigating the cause of the blaze. The deceased’s name has not been made public yet. We will update this story with more information.
