Meriden Schools Awarded State Grant Aimed At Boosting Student Attendance (patch.com) — Meriden schools are set to receive $274,000 from Connecticut's Learner Engagement and Attendance Program to boost student attendance through targeted home visits and family outreach. Local educators and community partners will work directly with Meriden families to identify barriers keeping students out of class, tapping into a growing statewide effort that has already helped reduce chronic absenteeism across Connecticut.
   

2. Human Remains Found After Fire In Meriden: Reports (patch.com) — Meriden police and fire crews are investigating after human remains were discovered while extinguishing a small outdoor fire near Hicks Avenue early Thursday morning. Roads around Hicks Avenue and North Colony Road are closed for an extended period, and residents are being asked to avoid the area while authorities continue their work and withhold further details.
   

3. 199-unit condominium, townhouse development proposed in Meriden (hartfordbusiness.com) — A 199-unit Kensington Ridge condo and townhouse complex is proposed for 525 Kensington Ave. in Meriden, bringing 21 new residential buildings and internal roads to a 20-acre site. The developer has already applied to the city's Inland Wetlands and Watercourse Commission, which will review the plan on Nov. 4, so nearby residents may want to track how this project could affect traffic, open space, and neighborhood character.
   

4. Meriden Foundation (insidephilanthropy.com) — Local nonprofits and students in Meriden can tap into grants and scholarships from the Meriden Foundation, which focuses heavily on health, community development, education, and churches in the city. Awards typically range from about $5,000 to $8,000, with an annual fall application window and $5,000 renewable scholarships for Meriden-resident high school seniors heading to college or technical school.
