PD: Man Who Fled Meriden Officers Faces Slew of Charges

The man who allegedly fled from police and caused two accidents has a number of charges against him.

Update: Martin was taken into custody at his home on Geer Avenue. He was charged with two counts of evading responsibility, driving without insurance, operating under suspension, misuse of plates, stop sign violation and disobeying the signal of an officer.

He also had two outstanding failure to appear warrants. His total bound amoung was $42,500.

Original story: Police captured a man after he allegedly struck a Meriden Police cruiser and another vehicle before he fled on foot.

A red Hyundai Elantra had the wrong market plate on it and an officer signaled the driver to pull over. The officer pulled his vehicle in front of the Elantra to start the traffic stop and got out of the vehicle, police said.

The Elantra driver decided to drive around the officer and crashed into the back end of another vehicle. He then fled down West Main Street.

The officer was unable to restart his own vehicle and radio’d the description of the vehicle.

The Elantra crashed into a BMW SUV at Grove and Foster streets. The BMW was on fire and flames surrounded both vehicles. Officers removed the BMW driver and the female Elantra passenger to safety.

Police started a search fr suspect Mark Martin, 25. He was found Tuesday night and taken into custody, police said.
