Erica Moreno, 29, was arrested on Jan. 19 for criminal impersonation, breach of peace and interfering with an officer along with two outstanding warrants for violation of probation. She was processed and taken to the Meriden Police lockup facility around 1:20 a.m.

Around 3:20 a.m. a desk sergeant saw that Moreno had tied her own clothing to the lower portion of the door and used her body weight to cut off her airway, said Sgt. Darrin McKay, police spokesman.

She was in critical condition and on life support since the incident. She recently passed away, McKay said.

“The Meriden Police Department wishes to express our sincerest condolences to Ms. Moreno’s family,” he said.
