Updated: Man Survives Being Hit by a Train in Meriden

The incident is still unfolding, but a train is blocking traffic near Cooper Street.

A man struck by a train in Meriden just before noon on Monday is injured but miraculously alive, the Record Journal reports.

The train stopped on Cooper Street and is blocking traffic, according to the Record-Journal. There is a heavy emergency response presence near the train.

A person was taken away alive and alert, but his leg was mangled by the train.

The lifestar emergency transport helicopter was dispatched to the scene, according to Fox CT.

The Record Journal reports that the man, whose name was not identified, was walking on the train tracks and was seen laying on the tracks before the train approached.

Police officials say the train operator did everything they could do stop the train in time.
