Police Nab Man Accused of Climbing Through a Window in Meriden and Sexually Assaulting a Child

Waterbury police made the arrest and the suspect is being held in lieu of $1 million.

Police say Jose Gonzalez, 23, of Waterbury is the suspect who allegedly climbed through a window in Meriden and sexually assaulted a 10-year-old girl, media reports say including WTNH News 8.

He is being held in lieu of $1 million bond and will appear in Superior Court on Monday. He was charged with home invasion, first-degree sexual assault, risk of injury to a child, unlawful restraint and threatening.

Gonzalez ran from the police when he was confronted in Waterbury and when he was taken into custody he was in possession of heroin, News 8 reports. He allegedly threatened to harm the girl and her family if she told anyone of the assault, police said.

News 8 interviewed the little girl’s mother, who says she is traumatized by what happened to her and her family.

“It’s hard you know. You don’t even feel safe now going to sleep,” the mother told News 8. “Last night I was checking every window like ten times and I already had checked it even though police were outside and I was still checking it. I don’t feel safe.”

A 10-year-old girl in Meriden was sexually assaulted early Wednesday morning by a man who entered the home through a window, according to police.

The girl was assaulted as she was sleeping in bed around 3:30 a.m., said Lt. Salvatore Nesci, police spokesman. She alerted family members to the assault and her mother saw a male suspect flee the house. He was described as a black male in his mid-40’s with a scratch on his cheek.

No weapon was used, Nesci said.
