Serious Injuries Reported in 3-Car, 2-Pedestrian Crash in Meriden: Police

The crash occurred Tuesday night on Chamberlain Highway.

MERIDEN, CT — Two people suffered critical injuries Tuesday night following a three-car crash on Chamberlain Highway in Meriden, according to police.

The two injured parties, Cynthia Santiago of Meriden and Feizi Wang of Cheshire, were outside of two of the vehicles involved in a crash at about 9:30 p.m. when they were struck by a third vehicle.

Santiago, the driver of one of the cars, was pinned between two cars, according to police. Wang, who was a passenger in the other car, was run over. Both were hospitalized and listed in critical but stable condition, according to Meriden Police Lt. Thomas Cossette in a statement.

The following is Cossette's description of the crash:

Upon arrival, officers observed a Honda Odyssey with damage to its rear bumper. Next to the Honda was a Chevy Impala with heavy rear end damage from being struck from behind by a Nissan Altima. The Nissan came to a final rest approximately 75 feet from the point of impact with the Chevy.
Prior to the accident, The Honda, being driven by Dao Zhangming of Cheshire and the Chevy Impala driven by Cynthia Santiago of Meriden were in a minor motor vehicle crash. While waiting for police to respond to the scene, Ms. Santiago got out of her car and was checking on the damage. A passenger in Mr. Zhangming’s vehicle, Feizi Wang, got out of the vehicle and was sitting on a curb next to the damaged vehicles. The Nissan that was being driven by Tyrrell McFadden of Meriden struck the Chevy in the rear causing the Chevy to run over Ms. Wang and pinning Ms. Santiago between the two vehicles. The Chevy came to rest after striking a telephone pole. Ms. Wang was transported to Hartford Hospital by Lifestar. Ms. Santiago was transported to Hartford Hospital also by Hunters Ambulance. Both are listed in critical but stable condition.
