Study Finds That New Yorkers Are Moving To CT
While plenty of people are moving out of Connecticut, a new study breaks down arrivals in our state.
CONNECTICUT — There's been plenty of news about people moving out of Connecticut, but there were still 84,718 people who moved into the state in 2018.
And our state is one of the most popular relocation destinations for New Yorkers. A new study by STORAGECafé, a nationwide self-storage platform, shows that those moving to the state are primarily from New York, accounting for 32 percent of new residents.
Another leading destination for New Yorkers — to no one's surprise — is Florida, which attracted 63,000 New Yorkers in 2018.

In the same time frame, more than 114,000 people moved away from Connecticut, resulting in a net loss of 30,000 people.

Connecticuters primarily chose Florida as their relocation destination, with 18,291 of them moving to the Sunshine State, according to STORAGECafé. This is part of an overall national trend, with people tending to migrate south.
According to a 2017 United Movers Study, 57 percent of moves in or out of Connecticut were outward. Connecticut was ranked fourth in outbound moving, behind Illinois (#1), New Jersey and New York.
California is the most mobile state, with 690,000 residents moving out, according to STORAGECafé. Housing and living costs are part of the reason people are fleeing the state.
Florida and Texas are attracting more residents, likely due to lower taxes and warmer temperatures.
Overall, Americans are some of the most mobile people in the world — 45.9 percent rate it likely that they'll move in the next five years.
All this moving is quite expensive, with the average move ranging between $2,400 and $4,500, depending on the distance.
