Vandals Strike at Meriden Humane Society
Dog kennels and a memorial garden plaque were reportedly damaged, staff say.
When Meriden Humane Society workers arrived to the shelter this morning, they were dismayed to find that property had been vandalized.
“As if we don’t have enough to keep us busy, this is what we saw when arriving at the shelter this morning,” The Meriden Humane Society wrote on its Facebook page.

“Overnight, our outdoor small dog kennels were vandalized. Some pulled completely off the foundation, tops ruined, structures bent... and we even had a few stolen off the property. Of all the damage we found this morning, the one that hit us the most was the damage done to the plaque in our Memorial Garden.”
The police were called right away and several people posted on the Humane Society’s Facebook page, offering to come and help. Some asked about cameras but Humane Society staff said the alleged vandals were out of range.

“A Sad State of Affairs”
“It’s a sad state of affairs when we have to contend with homeless/abused/injured/sick animals day in and day out... but to have those same animals victimized again by having their facility damaged is just sometimes too much to comprehend,” staff wrote.
They acknowledged that the vandalization results in more work for staff but said the real victims are the animals.
Can’t Stop Kindness
“This will not stop us from caring for these animals and the animals with in our community,” the Meriden Humane Society staff wrote. “It will not discourage us from the fact that there are still good and loving people out there. We will pick ourselves up and dust ourselves off.“
The telephone number for non-emergency calls to the Meriden Police Department is 203-238-1911.
