UPDATE: No Working Smoke Detectors in Meriden Home Where Woman Died in Fire

The fire occurred at about 3:25 a.m. on Pettit Drive.

Updated at 1:21 p.m. on Friday, June 3, 2016: Meriden Fire Chief Ken Morgan says that there were no working smoke detectors in the Pettit Drive home where a woman was killed in an early morning fire on Friday.

The fire was reported at about 3:25 a.m., and the preliminary investigation appears to indicate that the cause may have been cooking-related, and that the stove may have been left on, writes WFSB-TV.

Morgan told WFSB that sadly, it appears the loss of life could have been prevented.

The fire remains under investigation.

Original story: MERIDEN, CT - A woman died early Friday when her Pettit Drive home was destroyed by a fire, according to authorities.

In addition to the woman, a man who also lives in the home, suffered injuries but was able to get out of the home, writes the Hartford Courant. Their names were not disclosed, and no other injuries were reported.

Emergency personnel was called to the scene at about 3:25 a.m., and the man was already outside. Firefighters entered the home and were able to pull the woman out, but she was later pronounced dead at MidState Medical Center.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
