The suspect is in custody and police say the victim underwent surgery for her injuries at a trauma center late Thursday night.

MERIDEN, CT — A suspect is in custody after police say he seriously injured a woman in an assault late Thursday night in Meriden. Police say the victim and the suspect have a “long tumultuous domestic history.” The victim suffered facial and head injuries during the assault and was transported to an area trauma center where she underwent surgery for her injuries, according to police.
At about 10:50 p.m. on June 22, Meriden Police responded to Platt Avenue on the report of a woman bleeding and in need of medical attention. Arriving officers located the victim who had facial and head injuries, according to Sgt. Darrin McKay. (To sign up for Meriden breaking news alerts and more, click here.)
“Once on scene a firearm was located and there were several onlookers who were stating that the victim had been shot,” McKay said in a press release. “Investigation would eventually determine that this was not the case. The weapon turned out to be a facsimile BB gun; however, at this time it does not appear to have been used to cause the victims’ injuries.”

McKay said a quick and thorough investigation led officers to the suspect. The man is being held at the Meriden Police Department and McKay said he had an active warrant for his arrest for the violation of a protective order.
“The suspect and the victim have a tumultuous domestic history and the warrant stems from a previous domestic dispute,” McKay said. “The suspect was also charged with another count of violation of a protective order stemming from last night’s incident and he will be arraigned today at the Meriden Superior Court.
