• 18-year-old bought alcohol hours before deadly scooter-truck crash in Middlebury, police say (newstimes.com) — Police say an employee at International Wine & Spirits in Middlebury sold alcohol to 18-year-old David Young hours before he died in a July 11 scooter–pickup crash on Middlebury Road, though investigators haven’t determined whether alcohol played a role. Two store workers now face charges for allegedly selling to minors in separate incidents, and the crash remains under investigation. 
• Lawsuit challenges DOT approval (bee-news.com) — Middlebury residents and the group Save Historic Middlebury have filed a lawsuit challenging state approval of a 171,000-square-foot distribution center proposed for 1535 Straits Turnpike in town, citing serious traffic-safety concerns. They argue hundreds of additional tractor-trailers would worsen already dangerous conditions and are raising donations to cover legal fees for their Hartford-based attorneys.
