2 People Now Confirmed Dead in Saturday's House Fire

Middletown fire officials say the husband sustained serious injuries but is expected to survive.

Initially, on Saturday one person was confirmed dead in a house fire on Barbara Road.

But fire officials say a second person has also died, reports the New Haven Register.

The fire began 2 a.m. on Saturday and the husband was able to get outside, but his wife and a female adult friend had to be rescued by fire crews.

The adult female friend died at the scene, and the husband’s wife would later die on Saturday at a hospital as a result of her injuries, the Register reports. The couple’s 7-year-old child was out of the house and at a sleepover, the Register reports.

Fire officials are investigating the blaze, which destroyed the house.
