MIDDLETOWN, CT — Middletown police said 21 vehicles were broken into Monday.

Most of the incidents were during the overnight hours and took place in the North End, police said.

Police said that thieves broke the windows to get into the vehicles and then rummaged through them searching for items to steal. Many of the victims reported that loose change or cash were stolen and one resident reported that her wallet was missing.

Police said with the help of home surveillance systems, they were able to obtain images of a vehicle entering the area at about 3 a.m. The vehicle was determined to be a white 4-door BMW sedan with at least three people in it at the time of the thefts but their faces were concealed by clothing, police said.

"Middletown police encourage the public to keep personal or valuable items out of their vehicles and report any suspicious activity in their area." authorities said. "We are working with law enforcement agencies from neighboring communities that were also affected by similar events."
