TINTON FALLS, NJ — Vito Perillo, who is possibly the oldest mayor in the United States, faces three challengers as Tinton Falls residents prepare to vote in November.

Perillo, a World War II veteran, is 97. Four years ago, he took the mayoral seat from incumbent Gerald M. Turning by 300 votes.

Now, he faces a trio of challengers on November 2: Environmental Commission member Ellen J. Goldberg, businessman Michael S. Miles, and borough council member Brock Siebert.

Perillo told the Asbury Park Press he wants to be known for his accomplishments, not his age.
