"Based on information developed during the ongoing investigation, it appears the 20-year-old male pedestrian was not within a designated crosswalk at the time of the collision," police said in a preliminary report.

Police said the operator of the vehicle remained at the scene and "continues to be fully cooperative with investigators."

The pedestrian, police said, was in critical condition Tuesday afternoon and is receiving medical treatment at Hartford Hospital.

The investigation remains active and ongoing and is being conducted by the Middletown Police Department Traffic Unit.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or may have information related to the crash is being asked to contact Officer Eric Sanford at 860-638-4061.
