“It is with mixed feelings that I’m leaving the wonderful and spirited environment of MxCC,” said Smalley. “There are many opportunities to still pursue and I wish the College all of the best in its continued vision and success to be the college of our community with enriching signature programs and activities. As I pursue a new adventure in a new area, I look forward to following the growth of MxCC in coming years. I thank everyone for the time and cooperation they provided in helping us make a positive difference during my time at the College.”
In a letter to MxCC employees on Monday, Dr. Anna Wasescha, president of Middlesex Community College wrote, “… I want to thank Reid for his years of service to Middlesex and to take note of his accomplishments. Under his guidance, our manufacturing program is now fully enrolled. Our continuing education courses include online offerings as well as classroom-based opportunities for individuals seeking to learn work-related skills and to enrich their lives. For part of his tenure, he oversaw the Meriden Center, which has been growing steadily. The senior citizen programs, MILE and CCALC, are remarkable and, as you may have seen on our campus and in Meriden, attract a huge number of lifelong learners.”

Citing continuing budget concerns, and the trend in state support which has steadily declined over the last few years, Dr. Wasescha announced that she plans to retire the dean position and reorganize the continuing education and workforce development programs.
