Bike Lanes on Spring Street

Help Make A Better World

(John Hall)

Motor vehicles coming from Portland into Middletown on the Arrigoni Bridge have noticed that Main Street functions much better with the new traffic signals at Rapallo and Grand. Due to these and other improvements made by CT DOT around St. John’s Square in recent months, the temptation for motorists to “cut-through” North End neighborhoods is now greatly reduced.

Middletown’s Mayor Ben Florsheim and the Department of Public Works embraced “Complete Streets” principles in making Spring Street one-way eastbound between Prospect and Rome. Bike lanes in both directions were included. Click here to read more about the project. Middletown's Complete Streets Committee successfully advocated for the changes to Spring Street beginning in 2014.
