Boy Falls Through Ice, Rescued by Emergency Responders in Cromwell

CROMWELL, CT — A 15-year-old boy was rescued from frigid water by emergency responders after falling through the ice of a pond Wednesday morning in Cromwell, according to multiple reports.
FOX 61 reports the boy is a student at Adelbrook, a school that offers behavioral and developmental services, and a 911 call was made after the teen was seen standing on the ice in the middle of a pond near the school.
Responding officers were trying to talk the teen into walking back off the pond when the ice suddenly cracked and the boy fell into the water about chest deep, according to FOX 61.

WTNH News 8 reports the officers threw the boy a rope in an attempt to pull him out of the water but he couldn’t hold onto it.
A firefighter in a cold-water suit was able to crawl on the ice and get the rope to the boy and he was pulled to safety after being submerged in the water for less than three minutes, according to WTNH News 8.

The student wasn’t injured in the incident but was taken to Middlesex Hospital for evaluation.
