Dear Buttonwood Community,
The Buttonwood Board of Directors is thrilled to provide a happy update to everyone on the ceiling leak/flood of February 4th.
During our Art Reception for Lloyd Patrick Henry, water showered from the radiator break from the apartment above. The Middletown Fire Department was on the scene, and after 30 minutes was able to stop the leak.
We were able to get the significant flooding controlled in order to welcome the full house for Deep Ellum that night. Since then the enormous and multiple dehumdifiers and fans have worked overtime to take water out of the flood and the pillar.
We're happy to report that after ten days they did their job and the space is now free of the huge, very loud machines.
In the chaos, much of the space was unrecognizable, needing to be moved to protect the books and art. As we put the furniture back together, we've found new ways to use the space which opened it up to light and movement. Please stop in soon to enjoy these changes.
Last Thursday's performance by Wesleyan Dance Professor Iddi Saaka was an enormous success. We had a full house of Wesleyan Dance Faculty and students, as well as some community members for the joyous event.
We're working with three Wesleyan students to soon bring piano performances, open mic, and documentary film to The Buttonwood Tree, and hope to collaborate with the Wesleyan Dance Department, and the Center for the Fine Arts in the Spring.
Tonight is Drum Circle, Friday is Lucas Neil / Olivia Charlotte, and on Saturday Waberi Jordan will perform.
Looking forward to seeing everyone soon,
Amy Albert
