The 2026 Central Connecticut Nonprofit Candidate Forum is an in-person event that brings together nonprofit leaders, community members, and candidates running for office for a discussion about the needs of the community.
Attendees will have the opportunity to connect with fellow nonprofit organizations, meet local candidates, and learn more about how public policy and funding decisions impact families and services across our communities. The forum will also highlight the important role nonprofits play in strengthening the safety net for residents throughout Middlesex County and beyond.
The event will take place on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at CT State Community College Middlesex (Chapman Hall) in Middletown, with registration beginning at 8:00 a.m. and the program running from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m.
Registration is requested in advance.

Antonio Carvalho’s solo exhibition includes still-life, self-portrait, and landscape paintings.Spiritually reflective concepts of vanitas, contemplation, and vulnerability are concurrent ideas that draw on the artist’s own Christian faith.The physical act of making art for Carvalho is a powerfully symbolic pursuit that mediates his “… own restless spiritual energy.” Sacred ideas are particularly poignant in still-life paintings that address themes of “vanitas” (vanity).Carvalho explains that “the vanitas theme is related to my spiritual outlook as a Christian—i.e. temporal existence can only be validly understood in relation to eternity.” 

Carvalho is an adjunct professor of Fine Arts at CT State Middlesex and holds an MFA and BA from Western Connecticut State University. He has exhibited his paintings regionally for nearly 20 years and his commissioned work is held in collections internationally.&nbsp;Pegasus Gallery is located within the library on the first floor of Chapman Hall.&nbsp;Hours: Monday - Thursday: 8:30 am - 7 pm, Friday: 8:30 am – 4 pm.

Middletown, CT- September 9, 2026 — The Middlesex County Branch of the NAACP will mark 80 years with its Annual Freedom Fund Membership and Awards Dinner on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at 6:00pm at The Aqua Turf Club, 556 Mulberry Street, Plantsville, CT.
The keynote speaker is Chairman Emeritus Roslyn M. Brock. In 2010 she held the honor of being the youngest person unanimously elected to the position of National Board Chairman for the NAACP.She has been a leader in the NAACP for decades and is known for her mantra, “Courage will not skip this generation! ® ”
Appropriately this year with a focus on youth, the annual Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce Business Award will be presented to the Police Athletic League of Middletown (PAL).
The branch will also recognize those who have been members for 20 years or more. Special acknowledgement will be shared by David Roane, a former president and Anthony Gaunichaux, Sr., a former vice president of the Middlesex County Branch. They played pivotal roles in the early days of the branch, broke racial barriers in Middletown when it was unsafe and unpopular. “Their service is admired and revered,” said Michael Alleyne, president of the branch. “Neither have ever lost sight of the importance of social justice. They are examples of the fortitude we should all have in this fight.” 
The Emcee for the evening is WFSB Channel 3 Reporter Cierra Jordan.

In 1946 concerned African Americans formed the Portland/Middletown NAACP Branch. Years later, the branch became officially known as the Middlesex County NAACP encompassing 16 towns in the county. Now in 2026, this branch continues to advocate and serve as a resource for women and children during difficult times, stand for students’ right to equitable education experiences, and seek solutions to health disparities that plague our community.

He was formerly City Forester for the City of Hartford and has practiced arboriculture for more than 45 years. He has a BS in Horticulture and an AS in Arboriculture and Park Management from Stockbridge School of Agriculture at UMASS.&nbsp;John Kehoe has led many walks at public and private tree collections and&nbsp;will&nbsp;be sharing his knowledge- all are welcome.
