Call To Action on Lawn Chemicals

From John Hall Jonah Center

Your action now will help reduce the use of toxic lawn chemicals in Middletown. At the Common Council meeting on July 3, 7 p.m., we expect a vote on an amended ordinance to stop use of pesticides on City-owned playing fields. Even if this ordinance passes, a strong show of citizen support is needed to insure that the ban is actually complied with and to give the Council members voting for passage confidence that the public backs them.

Please attend the “Public Hearing” near the beginning of the meeting. There will be a time for you to stand or raise your hand in support of the amendment. We encourage you to speak during the Public Comment section if you wish to do so. It would also be very helpful if you sent all Council members a brief email stating your support for extending the existing state ban on registered pesticides on grounds of pre-K-8 schools to all City-owned fields, regardless of the age of the persons using the fields. Email to Council@MiddletownCT.gov Thank you very much for your support of this positive step for human health and the environment!
