Cancer Survivors Benefit From Free Program At Middlesex YMCA
The program is through the Livestrong Foundation, which is a nonprofit that provides support for people affected by cancer.

From Middlesex YMCA:Since Tim Dansdill started doing the LIVESTRONG program at Middlesex YMCA last month, he’s noticed a huge change in his strength and stamina.
“It drags me out of that fatigue and the funk of chemotherapy,” said Tim, who is battling cancer. “The trainers are behind me 100 percent and I’m behind them, too. It’s like a family here.”
The program is through the Livestrong Foundation, which is a nonprofit that provides support for people affected by cancer. It’s a 12-week program and helps adult cancer survivors to reclaim their health and well-being during and following cancer treatments. Thanks to donations, the program is free for a dozen members. We’re honored to sponsor the Middlesex YMCA’s third LIVESTRONG session starting in May for a new group of determined participants.

“We jumped at the opportunity to help empower those who are battling or have overcome cancer,” said Eversource Community Relations Specialist Pat Bandzes. “This is a tough time not only for them, but their families, too. Anything we could do to help to lift their spirits and support the Middlesex YMCA, we are on board with.”
Susan Cox and Craig Chivers are the two YMCA trainers who lead the 90-minute class twice a week, which includes a mix of exercises, focusing on everything from balance to resistance.

“It’s very rewarding for me to see people come in and improve their fitness, confidence, and stamina,” said Susan. “Their determination is so inspiring. Every week they are getting stronger and stronger.”
For Craig, the class is close to his heart after losing his mother to cancer in 2006. He feels a strong connection to every participant and is thankful the program is free of charge for them.
“Fundraising and donations are so important to be able to offer free classes like LIVESTRONG to those who really need it,” said Craig. “Eversource is leading by example when they stepped in to donate a session. It’s going to mean a lot to the participants.”
