Chamber's Breakfast, Job Fair And Monthly Meeting!

Chairman Gregory Shook of the Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce announced that David Benedict, Athletic Director at UConn will serve as guest speaker at the chamber’s Member Breakfast Meeting on Monday, June 20, 2016.

This event, sponsored by First Niagara Bank, will be held at the Radisson Hotel Cromwell, with networking beginning at 7:00 a.m., breakfast buffet at 7:30 a.m., and meeting program 8:00-9:00 a.m.

Chamber President Larry McHugh noted, “Our chamber is looking forward to welcoming David Benedict to our member breakfast meeting. We look forward to hearing his plans for UConn Athletics, an important economic generator in the state.”

Hired for the role of Athletic Director at the University of Connecticut in late February, David Benedict got to experience his first Husky championship at the UConn Women’s Basketball team won its 11th NCAA title in March.

Benedict most recently served as the Chief Operating Officer for the athletics department at Auburn University. Benedict is a highly-experienced athletic administrator who served as Deputy Athletic Director at Minnesota (2012-14) and in leadership positions at Virginia Commonwealth (2010-12), Long Beach State (2007-10), and Arizona State (1996-2006).

Benedict brings to UConn a national reputation in athletic administration focused on student-athlete success in competition and academically, long-range strategic planning, donor development, and fundraising and sound fiscal management.

Benedict directed all the day-to-day operations of the Auburn athletic department, with particular emphasis in operational planning, resource allocation, budget development and strong financial management. He led the department in developing strategic long-range plans for a $120-plus million budget, facilities, staffing and accomplishing strategic goals.

A native of Tempe, Ariz., Benedict, aged 44, is a 1995 graduate of Southern Utah, where he was a linebacker on the football team. He earned a master's degree from New Mexico Highlands in 1996, where he also was a graduate assistant football coach.

Benedict and his wife, the former Lisa Zeis, have 13-year old twin boys - Jake and Sam. Lisa was a four-time gymnastics All-American and two-time NCAA champion at Arizona State. She is currently a volunteer assistant coach for the Auburn women's gymnastics team, ranked No. 8 in the country.

Gregory Shook, Chairman of the Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce, announced that the Middlesex County Career Fair will be held on Monday, June 20th, from 11:00 AM until 2:30 PM at the Radisson Hotel Cromwell at 100 Berlin Road in Cromwell, CT. This event is sponsored by The Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce, The Connecticut Department of Labor and Workforce Alliance.

The Middlesex County Career Fair will provide Connecticut employers with a special recruiting opportunity. The main objective of this event is to connect highly skilled and qualified job seekers with quality employment opportunities.

Gregory Shook, Chairman of the Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce, announced that the Connecticut’s Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman will serve as a guest speaker at the Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce’s All Middletown Division Meeting on June 21.

The meeting will take place for chamber members at 8:00 AM at Wadsworth Mansion at 421Wadsworth Street in Middletown, CT. Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman will talk about Connecticut’s future and she will be taking a question & answers as time allows. A complimentary continental breakfast will be provided, courtesy of Wadsworth Mansion.
