CL&P Warns Customers About Auditing Scam
A business customer of Connecticut Light & Power reported a solicitation from an auditing firm that has no relationship with the company.

is warning customers about a potential phone scam from an auditing company that claims to be working CL&P.
According to Mitch Gross, spokesman for CL&P, a business customer in Middletown took a call on the morning of Aug. 14 from a person identifying themselves as being from the "Commonwealth Auditing Firm."
Caller claimed that she is working with CL&P to complete an audit to make sure the customer is not being overbilled and asked for copies of the customer's CL&P bills.
We have no working relationship with "Commonwealth Auditing Firm."
If a customer receives a call or a visit to their home such as this, CL&P recommends:

- Hang up the phone or decline the door-to-door offer, even if the person claims to have some form of proof, such as a “badge number” from the utility company. Call CL&P directly at (800) 286-2000 to confirm any offers.
- Never provide your Social Security number or personal financial information to any unsolicited caller or visitor, even if the caller or visitor seems legitimate.
- Report the incident to your local police.
