Four Acclaimed National Comedians to Perform at 1st Annual “Comedy, Charity, Community” Night at Wesleyan University, Friday, January 26th, to benefit Amazing Grace Food Pantry
Middletown-St. Vincent de Paul Middletown (SVDM) in partnership with Wesleyan University’s Robert F. Schumann Institute of the Bailey College of the Environment are proud to present a night of “Comedy, Charity, Community” on Friday, January 26, 2024, 6:30-9 p.m. at. Wesleyan University’s Fayerweather Building, Beckham Hall, 55 Wyllys Ave, Middletown.
Tickets ($49) are available in advance at https://www.svdmiddletown.org/ and at the door, include a community social at 6:30 with free hors d’oeuvres created by SVDM’s chef and soft drinks. Thanks to Connecticut Beverage Mart, we will have a fine selection of wine & beer available for purchase. After the two-hour show, organizers will draw a raffle ticket for weekend use of a BMW or Mercedes for a weekend. ($500 value). All proceeds of the evening benefit Middletown’s Amazing Grace Food Pantry.

Four seasoned comedians from Boston and Connecticut, with hearts as bigger than their funny bone include headliner Angel Rentas, John Hinton, Jim McCue, and Jess Miller.
Angel Rentas, who is also a Hartford Health Cardiac Nurse Practitioner delivers comedy based on his experiences in a multicultural Latino family and everyday quirky observations of life. He has participated in Boston Comedy Best of the Fest shows, Coors Light National Comedy Finalist and Nurse Practitioner injecting humor into your life.

Rentas helped raise over 20,000 dollars for different charity groups through comedy shows with other healthcare providers.
After John C. Hinton appearance on BET’s Comic View, he became an instant favorite at comedy clubs across the country. Another Connecticut native, John makes his home in Hartford. He has appeared with comedy icons Martin Lawrence and Chris Rock to sold out events!
Jess Miller has performed at the Women in Comedy Festival, Boston Comedy Chicks, won the Ladies Room Comedy Festival, and was a finalist at the Devil Cup Comedy Festival. She appeared at Big Pine Comedy Festival, She Devil Contest and has worked all over the country at clubs such as Caroline’s, Broadway Comedy Club, Crackers, Off-the-Hook, Funnybone, The Coming Strip, The Punchline, Laugh’s Unlimited, The Comedy Factory Hollywood and many more. She recently headlined The No Nuts Comedy Tour which toured the country.
Since diving into comedy, Jess has helped raise nearly $700,000 for non-profits, groups and individuals with her FunnyRaising Comedy Shows, including her Annual Toy Drive for Foster Kids and Art Kits for Foster Kids which has brought in over $100,000 worth of toys.
Boston and international comic Jim McCue has been featured on Comedy Central, Comcast Comedy Spotlight, NBC’s “Last Comic Standing,” and “Roughing It” on NESN in his native New England. Jim also founded and currently runs The Boston Comedy Festival. He works in top comedy clubs in Boston, Las Vegas, New York, Dublin, Montreal and Edinburgh. Since 2000, Jim has also entertained U.S. troops at more than 100 bases around the world.
