Cops, Kiwanis and Big Y Teaming Up For Food Pantry Drive In Middletown
Catholic Charities says eligible residents from seven area communities can sign up for the pantry at 16 Stack St. on weekdays.

MIDDLETOWN, CT — The Middletown Police Activities League, Big Y World Class Market and the Middletown Kiwanis Club are teaming up for the food drive Saturday to benefit the Amazing Grace Pantry.
The event is slayed for 10 a.m. to0 2 p.m. at the Middletown Big Y, 850 South Main St.

Catholic Charities is sharing information for area residents who want to shop at the Amazing Grace Free Community Market in Middletown.
According to the information provided, residents of Middletown, Portland, East Hampton, Higganum, Durham, Middlefield and Cromwell may enroll by visiting 16 Stack Street on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday between noon and 4 p.m. The notice states that, upon arrival, a staff member or volunteer will help people sign up for services.

The enrollment process includes collecting information on income level, family size and city of residence, according to the notice. The Amazing Grace Food Pantry is open to shoppers on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from noon until 4 p.m.
Catholic Charities reported that more than 900 families shop at the food pantry each month. A family of four can receive three days of groceries twice per month, which the notice lists as a $200 value. Families are able to choose from a selection of foods that includes fresh fruits and vegetables.
The information provided says those groceries help stretch monthly budgets for households facing strain. It also states that Catholic Charities helps individuals determine whether they qualify for other social service programs and assists guests with applications.
According to the notice, that help may include programs such as SNAP, energy assistance, WIC, school meals, Husky Part A, Husky Part B, State Administered General Assistance, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families, Aid to the Blind or Disabled and Social Security Supplemental.
