Covenant Village of Cromwell began construction of a new 4,200-square-foot meeting center that will significantly expand the programming opportunities available at the 40-acre continuing care retirement community located at 52 Missionary Dr., Cromwell, Conn.
The $2 million, one-story building will feature a main hall, adjacent meeting room, large gathering lobby and serving kitchen. When set theater-style for a program, seating will fan a raised platform and provide a good view from every seat. The 172-person capacity of the main hall can be expanded to 200 by opening the hall to the adjacent meeting room. The meeting room will be used for resident activities, meetings, training and other functions.
“Not only will the meeting center significantly expand the programming options for Covenant Village, it will provide a new venue for the local community,” says Covenant Village Executive Director Burt Johnson. “It will allow us to be even more involved, offering programs and acting as a host site for community groups and organizations.”

The building will be located at the east end of a three-story residential building called Morningside. Indoor access is available from the main building. Access from outdoors will be on the south side of the building. By adding an elevator, Covenant Village will ensure that residents on all floors of Morningside have convenient access to the meeting center.
“Early on, we involved Covenant Village residents in project planning,” says Johnson. “This is their home, and they were instrumental in helping establish the building’s programming, amenities and décor.”
