Covenant Village of Crowmwell Receives Highest Rating from U.S. News & World Report

The healthcare center at Covenant Village of Cromwell, a faith-based, not-for-profit, continuing care retirement community administered by Covenant Retirement Communities, received five stars, the highest possible overall rating, in U.S. News & World Report’s sixth annual Best Nursing Homes list.

Out of almost 16,000 nursing centers covered nationwide, the ratings highlight the top providers in each city and state. The goal is to help users find a skilled nursing center with a strong track record of good care. Of the 229 nursing centers in Connecticut, only 82 received an overall five-star rating from the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

“To maintain our five-star rating, every employee in our healthcare center is dedicated to quality care,” says Pamela Klapproth, Covenant Village of Cromwell executive director. “We’re proud to offer the very best to rehab patients and seniors in the greater Hartford area.”

The healthcare center at Covenant Village of Cromwell provides short-term rehabilitation after a hospital stay or illness as well as long-term care.

Best Nursing Homes draws on CMS data in three categories—health inspections, level of nurse staffing, and quality of care—and gives each an overall rating. U.S. News awarded the “Best Nursing Home” designation to nursing centers that earned an overall rating of five stars from CMS in January 2014.

Approximately 25 percent of the skilled nursing and healthcare centers considered in 2014 achieved a five-star rating. In 2013, five-star ratings went to just 19 percent.

In making the announcement, Avery Comarow, U.S. News health rankings editor said, “The rising number of five-star [skilled nursing and healthcare centers] is encouraging. It speaks to care that is steadily becoming more skilled and compassionate.”
