MIDDLETOWN, CT — One person was hurt in a head-on collision in Middletown Tuesday, police said.

On Tuesday at 10:38 a.m., Middletown police responded to a serious car crash on the 1100 block of Washington Street in the area of the Sagamore Hills Apartments. Officers encountered two vehicles in the road with heavy front-end damage and airbag deployment.

The driver of a a gray 2004 Mazda 3 was trapped in his vehicle and firefighters were able to free him, according to a crash report. He was taken to Hartford Hospital for a suspected broken leg and was reported to be in stable condition, police said.

The two occupants of the second vehicle, a black 2012 Chevrolet Traverse, appeared to be uninjured, but were transported to Middlesex Hospital for evaluation, according to a crash report.

Witnesses told police that the Mazda was traveling west on Washington Street when the driver lost control of it, crossed the center line and struck the Chevrolet, which was traveling east on Washington Street.
