“Ripple Effect” Wesleyan Student Film Screening

Come to the Buttonwood Tree Performing Arts Center (605 Main Street in Middletown) on Tuesday, April 25, at 7 p.m. to view several short documentary films on the theme of water and sustainability. One film—on Pameacha Pond—was made in partnership with the Jonah Center. Other topics are the impact of invasive plants in our forests and the daily life of a sanitation worker. Show your support for Middletown’s tree-planting program and enjoy the beauty of Wadsworth Mansion by attending the Arbor Day celebration on Friday, April 28, at 10 a.m. The trees surrounding the mansion are a story in themselves.

Our “paddle with a purpose” work parties to remove invasive water chestnut plants from the Connecticut River and its tributaries will begin in early June. Most of these outings will be on Saturdays in the Floating Meadows (Mattabesset River). Smaller work parties will be scheduled on Sundays or weekdays on the main stem of the Connecticut River.

A Bit Of Good News

For the second time in the past 2 years, ISO-New England reported record-low demand for grid electricity. The most recent record was set on Easter Sunday, April 9. Growing behind-the-meter solar power, sunny skies, mild temperatures, and energy efficiency improvements all combined for a historic day. Read more and view a graph on the effect of solar power here.
