eBay Item of Week: Middletown Advertiser Circa 1873

Ahhh ... 1873 was a fine year in Middletown. If you needed a new dress for Sunday worship, why, you'd head over to Mrs. Buell's at 82 Main St., place your order and then stop at the ladies dining saloon at J.P. Hoffort's Bakery at 222 Main St. for a bite to eat.

The eBay item of the week is the Aug. 1, 1873, issue of the Middletown Advertiser, "circulated daily until noon on all incoming railway trains."

Published solely in Middletown by Geo. S. Hubbard from 1871-4, the Advertiser then expanded to include Hartford circulation. The seller says the item has wear, tears, folds ad pencil marks in the margins.

The starting bid is $8.39 through July 19.
