MIDDLETOWN, CT — Police in Middletown Thursday were warning residents about fake cops trying to solicit money from them.

Police said they have been receiving complaints about phone calls from people claiming to be members of the police department soliciting donations.

They are imposters conducting a scam, police said.

"MPD will not call you and ask for any form of payment. Please never share any personal information over the telephone or internet," police said.

Police are investigating the matter.
