First Church of Middletown hosted their Annual Christmas Concert

First Church of Christ of Middletown, CT hosted their annual Christmas Concert on December 10, 2017 at 4pm.

MIDDLETOWN, CT - This past weekend, the choirs (Celebration Singers, Senior Choir, Court Street Singers, and Hearts in Hand Bells Choir) of First Church of Christ in Middletown (located on Court Street) filled their sanctuary with the sounds of Christmas. The choirs, all led by Minister of Music Sheri Lucas sang a variation of Christmas Songs, Hymns and Carols including, Ding Dong Merrily on High, The Holly and The Ivy, It Came upon a Midnight Clear, and Silent Night. The attendance at this event was very high with the pews on the ground level of the sanctuary almost being entirely full and a good number of attendees in the balcony level of the church’s sanctuary. Ms. Sheri Lucas, received her baccalaureate degree in music from Baldwin-Wallace University Conservatory of Music in Berea, Ohio and a Master’s Degree in Music from Yale University School of Music in New Haven, Connecticut. She has been with First Church since 2003 and she also plays piano in her husband’s band called “The Heartland Dixie Jazz Band “. The Celebration Singers and Senior Choir are the two vocal Choir Group made up of young to elderly aged church members and vocal ranges include Alto, Bass, Soprano, and Tenor. The Court Street Singers is a male sextet vocal choir with voice ranges of Bass and Tenor. The Heart in Hands Bell Choir is a non-vocal choir group that plays music on bells that range from A-G. First Church of Middletown was established in 1662 when Middletown was first established as a Town and have had four “meetinghouses” including their Court Street location. Rev. Julia Hendrickson Burkey has been the Minister of First Church since 2011 after the retirement of Rev. John Hall.
