Boston’s Ensemble Aubade (Peter H. Bloom, flute; Francis Grimes, viola; and Mary Jane Rupert, harp) is making their debut in the Russell Library concert series! The ensemble will perform Claude Debussy’s transcendent Sonata for Flute, Viola and Harp, one of the masterpieces of the chamber music repertoire.
Other selections will include the lush and thrilling Sonatine en Trio by Maurice Ravel, the witty Suite Brêve by Ladislas de Rohozinski, and the evocative Elegiac Trio by Arnold Bax.
Ensemble Aubade is based in Boston and concertizes across the United States. Recent appearances include the Saint Louis Art Museum, The Robert H. Wood Great Artist Series (NY), The Webster Series (Hanover NH), The Master Arts Series (Knoxville), Westminster Fine Arts (Des Moines), The Chamber Music Society of Central Kentucky in Lexington, The Mississippi Chambre Music Guild in Jackson, and many other venues. The group has been hailed for “intensity, imagination, skill, and finesse…shimmering grace” (St. Lawrence University) and “rich interpretations and beautiful contrasts” (West Claremont Center for the Arts). Their music has been called “dynamic, expressive, richly colored and affecting” (Sisters of Loretto, Kentucky).
