Celebrate love at the Wadsworth Mansion on Saturday, February 14, 2015. The Friends of Long Hill Estate are hosting a Valentine’s Day Dinner and Dance from 6:30 -11:30 p.m. to raise money for the Friends of Long Hill. Cocktails commence at 6:30 followed by a buffet dinner at 7:30. Dancing will begin at 8:00 with the sound of Eight to the Bar. There will be a cash bar and raffle prizes. Tickets are $65.00 per person and can be purchased online at http://www.wadsworthmansion.com/event_celebratelove.php.
Eight to the Bar has played at several of the Music at the Mansion concerts. They were voted ‘Best Band 2008’ by Connecticut Magazine and ‘Best Jazz Band’ in the 2008 Hartford Advocate Readers Poll. Drawing their musical influences from American roots music: swing, boogie woogie, rhythm & blues, soul, and Motown, Eight to the Bar is known for its outstanding its instrumentalists and sophisticated musical and vocal arrangements. The Friends of Long Hill Estate is a volunteer organization that supports and fosters Long Hill Estate as an historical park and mansion and also promotes its use as a public and community resource. They were originally responsible for bringing awareness of the historical significance of the Estate to the citizens of Middletown to help save it from demolition. After the Mansion was restored they shifted their focus to making it accessible to the public and relaying its rich narrative. They are the promoters of the Music at the Mansion Series that is hosted each July at the Mansion. Additionally, they work with the Long Hill Estate Authority on capital improvements of the estate such as tree planting, the creation of a sidewalk from the parking lot to the front door and most recently the installation of the granite under the portico.
