Getting Down and Dirty for a Cause [With Video]
Thousands tape up for Middletown's charitable Epilepsy Foundation Mud Volleyball Tourney.
If you weren't brown then you weren't having fun Saturday at the Epilepsy Foundation of Connecticut's Mud Volleyball Tournament at Zoar's Pond in Middletown.
Thousands duct taped their feet up for the 25th annual event in which 192 teams with names like the French Ticklers, Mudsupials, We're Too Old, Muddy Knuckles, Dirty Balls, Dirty Deeds, We Like it Dirty, Down and Dirty and the Mudslingers — a sellout — matched up for the elimination-style tournament.
Humor was rampant in team names, team tees and announcements. "Raise your hand if your team doesn't have any balls" and "Every team must have at least two women on the court at all times. If you're not sure if you've got a woman, bring them up and they will be verified."

Last year's event drew 176 teams and raised $50,500, which was used to help people with epilepsy and their families throughout Connecticut. This year, teams that had not pre-registered had to be turned away.
