Help Us Reduce Lawn Chemical Use

From The Jonah Center

The Jonah Center, along with Ecoin (Environmental Collective Impact Network) and Project Green Lawn, is asking for a show of citizen support for a proposed ordinance amendment that will protect children and the environment from certain toxic lawn chemicals. Getting this amendment approved by Middletown’s Public Works Commission on May 17 was a major accomplishment. But now we need to follow through with proof that the public wants this proposal to become policy.

This ordinance amendment extends the ban of EPA registered pesticides at K-8 schools and daycare centers (as required by State law) to all public recreational playing fields in Middletown. We believe that the ordinance amendment will go before the Common Council as early as July 3. It is very important to demonstrate public support so that it will pass and then be seriously implemented by the Public Works Department.
Please take a moment to sign the Petition of Support. Your name and town will visible on the website, but not your email address. We will use your email to follow up with future news or action alerts on this subject, if needed.
“Signatures” of residents as well as non-residents who work or go to school in Middletown are welcome, so please forward this request to anyone who might be inclined to respond. Thanks again.
Your financial support of this work is very important too. To make a special contribution, please click the Donate button on the left side of the Jonah Center homepage.
