Middlesex Hospital Receives Certification

STAR Program to help cancer patients

Middlesex Hospital has been awarded STAR® Program certification, a service that will greatly benefit the physical and emotional health of cancer survivors.

Cancer treatments can be very toxic and may cause significant pain, fatigue and disability. The STAR Program Certification (Survivorship Training and Rehabilitation) provides clinicians with the training, protocols and other tools needed to deliver evidence-based “best practice” cancer rehabilitation services. These services include physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy. The STAR Program has become the gold standard in cancer rehabilitation care — with proven methods that help patients increase their strength and energy, alleviate their pain and improve their daily function and well being.

In order to obtain the STAR certification, the clinical staff in the Hospital’s Departments of Oncology and Rehabilitation has undergone intensive training that will translate into enhanced care for cancer survivors at Middlesex Hospital. The program will be administered through the Middlesex Hospital Cancer Center’s Center for Survivorship and Integrative Medicine. Most of the services offered through the STAR Program are typically covered by health insurance.
