Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe at the Kate February 11

OLD SAYBROOK, CT - The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, “the Kate”, is pleased to welcome Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at 7:30 pm.

Singer and saxophonist Karl Denson fronts the Tiny Universe as if he’s preaching the gospel. His energy and spirit are contagious while his songwriting serves a larger message of fellowship—across generations, genders, religions and cultures. Not surprisingly, he’s none too pleased with the current state of political discourse. Thus the reason why KDTU’s new album, ‘Gnomes & Badgers’ (Seven Spheres Records), is Denson’s hard-grooving answer to these tragically divisive times.

Highly regarded as one of the best live acts on the planet, KDTU distills the sweeping stylistic range of its concert performances into their own authentic sound featuring Denson and his long-standing seven piece unit. A touring member of The Rolling Stones and the linchpin of storied jazz-funk outfit The Greyboy Allstars, Denson's songwriting style draws from Sly & the Family Stone, Funkadelic, Rufus and Chaka Khan, Stevie Wonder, and other beloved soul, funk and R&B artists. Denson's Tiny Universe consists of Greyboy bassist Chris Stillwell and former Greyboy drummer Zak Najor, as well as David Veith and Kenneth Crouch on keyboards, Chris Littlefield on trumpet, Seth Freeman on guitar and lap steel, and DJ Williams on guitar.
