FDA Vaccine Advisory Panel’s Dr. Ofer Levy on Rigorous Process Around Vaccine Approval For Children.
This week we speak with Dr. Ofer Levy, Director of the Precision Vaccines Program at Boston Children’s Hospital, Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School and member of the FDA COVID Vaccine Advisory Panel. He talks about the recent decision not to recommend booster shots for all those under 65, saying they needed to see more data on younger populations. He says the panel's review process for COVID vaccines for children aged 5-to-11 will be rigorous and transparent to the public, and that the early data around blending different vaccines in adults looks promising for boosting immunity. His team is also working on developing another COVID vaccine, as well as other research on vaccines for cancer, and even opioid use disorder and fentanyl overdose.
