Man Arrested After Porch Roof Caught On Fire: Middletown PD

The man was combative with officers and was previously warned about burning close to his home, police said.

MIDDLETOWN, CT — A Middletown man was arrested after he became combative about firefighters putting out a fire at his house, according to police.

Fire crews responded to North Main Street May 24 and found a fire in the back of the property near the residence. The rear roof of the porch had caught on fire.

Owner Jared Corriveau, 40, arrived at the scene a short time later and claimed he had a burn permit, but the fire marshal said he did not. Corriveau then yelled at the fire marshal, firemen and officers to get off his property, police said.

Corriveau was warned that he needed to allow the firefighters to do their job and was told to walk across the street and wait. He fought with officers and was eventually handcuffed, police said.

A fire department lieutenant told police that Corriveau was warned less than a week before the incident about burning on his property and that he could be fined or charged with reckless burning due to the close proximity to the house, police said.
