Man Wanted On Attempted Murder Charge Arrested In Middletown: Police

The man, who was wanted as a fugitive out of South Carolina, was arrested after a traffic stop in Middletown, according to police.

MIDDLETOWN, CT — A New Britain man who was wanted as a fugitive out of South Carolina on an attempted murder charge was arrested after a traffic stop in Middletown on Thursday, according to police.

Detectives conducted a traffic stop on March 31 in connection with an ongoing drug investigation, according to police.

The driver was identified as Steven Caldwell, and a search of the vehicle “revealed approximately 8.2 grams of crack cocaine and other items of drug paraphernalia,” according to police.

Caldwell was also found to have an extraditable arrest warrant out of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on attempted murder with a handgun along with other charges, police said.

Caldwell was arrested and charged with possession of narcotics, possession with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia, operating under suspension, traveling unreasonable fast and fugitive without warrant. He was held in lieu of bonds totaling $1.25 million and appeared in court on April 1, according to police.
