
From The Middletown Press: Mayor Daniel Drew is proposing the city join the burgeoning effort to eliminate one-time use plastic bags.
In conjunction with environmental groups and his legal staff, Drew has drafted a proposed ordinance he intends to bring to the Common Council next month. “We also looked at what other and towns and cities in the state have come up with,” he added.
The two-page proposed ordinance is justified because “Plastic checkout bags pollute our local streams and rivers, disintegrate into smaller bits that contaminate soil and waterways and enter into the food supply of animals, fish and humans.
