David Sutherland has been the Director of Government Relations for The Nature Conservancy’s Connecticut Chapter for the past twenty-five years. He has worked with colleagues in a variety of coalitions to advocate on behalf of state and federal funding and tax incentives for natural lands protection, habitat restoration, clean water initiatives, invasive species control, and renewable energy. He has lobbied for ecological streamflow regulations, “living shoreline” coastal protections, and marine spatial planning initiatives.
Prior to his position with the Conservancy, David worked for the Connecticut Audubon Society and the Connecticut Council on Environmental Quality.

David has a Master’s degree in Environmental Studies from Antioch University, and lives with his wife, Nancy, in Middletown.
